What Is a Restaurant Designer?

Restaurant designers are essentially architects who work in building the restaurants. They are responsible for building the look and feel of the restaurant. They are more on the creative side who build the main design/blue[print of the building of the restaurant and work with construction workers to build the entire restaurant from scratch. They are specialized to work in the restaurant business. In order to become a unique restaurant designer one must have a Bachelor’s degree in architecture. To be able to work professionally restaurant designers need to have a State licence authenticated by  the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB).

The work of a restaurant designer starts with checking the property and devised a building plan that would provide optimal usage of the area. After that the building plan starts. The fact that they are building a restaurant it is obvious that the layout of the place would consist of the basic necessities of the kitchen, washrooms,a room for the staff, the bar area, the seating area and a reception area. Once these basic things are figured out , it leaves room to add more elements to suit the look and make of the restaurant. For example, if the restaurant wants to have a seating in the outdoors too then that can be added, or if the owners want there to be a fireplace constructed or if they want a fountain area outside the reception then all of those elements too are incorporated into the layout.

This however is not all as restaurants have restrictions since they are commercial buildings at the end of the day. There are a few regulations that have to be met. It is the restaurant designer’s job to make sure that the building is being constructed as per the owner’s needs but  while also maintaining the basic federal regulations. It is the job of the restaurant designer to strike a balance between efficiency and compatibility with the regulations without compromising the aesthetics of the restaurants.
